Sarah Beserra is a Bay Area writer and cultural historian best known for documenting the plein air painting movement around Northern California. She served as editor and publisher of “The Plein Air Scene” newsletter in the late 1990s and early 2000s, producing one of the few sustained records of the region’s plein air revival.
Her work expanded into exhibitions, writing, and lectures, contributing to the interpretation of California landscape painting traditions with strong ties to the arts and civic life of historic Benicia, California. The Benicia Herald, her hometown newspaper, publishes her bi-weekly column “Strolling down First Street with Sarah Beserra.” Living just two blocks from Benicia’s main street, Sarah writes about the people, shops, culture, and goings-on in her hometown with humor and curiosity.
